Frequently asked questions
Your questions answered.
- What's the difference between live redirects and 404 redirects?
- Live redirects allow you to redirect any URL on your site to another destination, even if the original URL exists. 404 redirects are specifically for fixing broken links that result in 404 error pages. On the Hobbyist plan, you can only create redirects from 404 error pages, while the Pro plan allows you to create both types of redirects.
- How do branded short links work?
- Branded short links are custom, memorable URLs that redirect to any page or product you choose. They are accessible at yourdomain.com/a/wc/[Short Link ID]. For example, you could create a short link 'summer-sale' that redirects to your summer collection page. The Hobbyist plan includes up to 50 active branded short links, while the Pro plan offers unlimited short links.
- What happens to my redirects if I cancel my subscription?
- Your existing redirects will continue to work even after cancellation. However, you won't be able to create new redirects or modify existing ones. If you decide to resubscribe later, you'll regain full access to manage your redirects.
- How do I bulk upload redirects?
- You can bulk upload redirects using a CSV file. The CSV should have columns for 'from' (source URL), 'to' (destination URL). Note that on the Hobbyist plan, you can only bulk upload 404 redirects, while the Pro plan allows bulk uploads of both 404 and live redirects.
- Why are some of my broken links / 404 pages not detected?
- A visitor needs to consent in your site's consent banner in order for Wildcardo's telemetry to detect 404 pages. GDPR, CCPA and other data privacy regulations often limit the use of such telemetry until the user consents. Please contact hello@wildcardo.com if you believe it's not detected for another reason.
- How do I set up notifications for 404 errors?
- You can configure 404 error notifications in the Settings page. You can choose to receive notifications for new 404 errors and set up regular reports (daily, weekly, or monthly). You can also set a threshold for warning reports to avoid being notified about minor issues. Make sure to provide a valid email address in the notification settings.
- Can I use wildcards in my redirects?
- Yes! The Pro plan supports wildcard redirects using the * character. For example, you can create a redirect from '/old-blog/*' to '/new-blog/*' to redirect all old blog posts to their new locations. This is particularly useful for bulk redirects when you've restructured your site.
- How do I organize my redirects?
- You can organize your redirects into groups. This helps you manage large numbers of redirects more effectively. For example, you might create groups like 'Product Redirects', 'Blog Redirects', or 'Seasonal Campaigns'. You can filter and view redirects by group in the Redirects page.
